New Mexico High Speed Networking Projects

In a strong collaborative effort NMSU, NMT and UNM have been working on a number of networking projects that will provide high speed bandwidth to New Mexico.   The concept of purchasing dark fiber to save on recurring costs is the theme of building this next generation network.   The Rio Grande Fiber Project, National Lambda Rail (NLR), LANL connection to I2, Southeast Fiber Project, Albuquerque Metro area Fiber Project,

NM GigaPop are some of the initiatives that are being coordinated by the Research Universities with CHES-Net.   This presentation will briefly describe each initiative and show how each fits into the "big picture" of New Mexico networking.

Advising Space: Providing Student Information to Faculty Advisors

Advising Space is a web based application that integrates Western New Mexico University's Portal (Luminis from SCT) with the University's SIS to provide up to date student information to Faculty Advisors.   The application allows an advisor to email one or all of their advisees, view academic records, and store comments for each advising session.   Advising Space is the winner of the 2005 NACADA Technology award.   A demonstration of the application as well as a technical overview will be given.
